Understanding atrial fibrillation
Atrial fibrillation, or AFib, is an irregular heart rhythm that can increase the risk of blood clots and stroke. Symptoms and treatment needs vary. A diagnosis requires clinical assessment and may involve an ECG or other monitoring; a video conversation alone cannot confirm every rhythm problem.
What we’ll discuss
- Your rhythm diagnosis and any episodes of palpitations
- Medicines, side effects, and questions about stroke-risk management
- Previous ECGs, monitoring, and specialist recommendations
Your ongoing care
Your provider can review records, discuss medication management, and recommend testing or specialist follow-up. Choices about heart-rate control, rhythm treatment, and clot prevention depend on your individual history. Do not change a blood thinner on your own.
Questions about your care
Can I book for palpitations without an AFib diagnosis?
You can request an evaluation for non-emergency palpitations. Your provider may order testing or recommend in-person assessment to identify the cause; palpitations do not always mean AFib.
